Hiwa-i-te-rangi is the name of the youngest star in the Matariki constellation - the one that stands for hopes and aspirations. That's why we chose it as the name for Northland College Teen Parent Unit which was established in 2016 to provide education for young parents in Kaikohe and the surrounding regions. In 2021 Hiwa-i-te-rangi, Northland College Teen Parent Unit was in the finals for the Prime Minister's Education Excellence Awards in Teaching and Learning. Here is a more in depth video about what we do.
