We acknowledge that being a young parent is hard enough without the extra challenges that many of our young māmā face. We offer support and encouragement, not just in terms of providing education and work experience but also by being a hub for many of the wrap around services offered by social providers in the area. These include maternity and general health care, dentistry, mental health and counselling, financial capability, parenting, work experience and career opportunities, driver licencing and perhaps, best of all door to door transport and free childcare. But our main role is helping young parents to be the best parents they can be, to be strong in their identity and to support them, in building a secure and loving future for their tamariki and whanau.
"At Hiwa-i-te-rangi it is like home because we are whanau; we all work together and no-one is left out. When one of us is having a bad day we all as one find a way to help the person with what they are going through" Kayla Harris Student 2019. Click the picture for more information.
At most schools or courses you choose a pre-designed course or subject. At Hiwa we are different as we write course around the individual needs of the students. This means that our students work on projects that interest and excite them. Click the picture for more information.
